Dragonfly Dreams and A Homemade Embossing Folder

The Stamp Share For Leaders group had another swap last week. We're showcasing the new sets and accessories in the Occasions Catalog and Sale-A-Bration brochure. They both start on Wednesday! This is the first of the two cards I made:

Stamp Set: Dragonfly Dreams, Thoughtful Banners (Annual Catalog)

Accessories: Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, Stitched Frames Framelits

Colors: Basic Black, Old Olive, Pink Pirouette, Whisper White

Are you wondering how I did the embossing on the right side of the card? I made my own embossing folder using the Thinlits!

I cut 5 pieces of card stock to 4 x 5 1/4, which is the size of the Old Olive layer on my card. This way I didn't have to worry about lining the piece up if I had made the "folder" larger. I die cut 3 of the pieces with the multi-dragonfly thinlit, making sure they were in the same spot. On the 4th piece, I adhered the 3 cut out multi-dragonfly pieces in a stack. I taped those 4 pieces together to make my folder. After running through the Big Shot for the first time, I realized I needed some of the cut out little pieces to define each of the dragonflies, so I taped on a 5th piece behind the 3 open layers and added a stack of the little pieces that were needed. If you look at the top left corner between the top dragonfly and the 2nd one, you can see the kind of triangle pieces that was needed there.

I liked both sides of my embossed layers:

The one on the left is raised, the one the right is sunk in

Here's a tip for cutting out multiple dragonflies with the thinlits:

4 of them fit perfectly on a strip that is 2 3/4 x 8 1/2", which is one sheet of card stock cut into fourths. This is how I did 40+ dragonflies!
