Thoughtful Branches With Sponge Daubers

Playing with the Thoughtful Branches stamp set again! This set will be available August 2-31! I had a hard time getting this card to turn out the way I wanted, so I'll be sharing several different versions and some of the "how to" all this week. Here's my first version:

I used Post-It Notes to mask off the area that I wanted to stamp in:

Like the little ones? John used to be a beer distributor so we had all kinds of beer stuff around the house! He found these recently when he helped his parents move some stuff. They work! If you look close you can see the outline of the Whisper White card stock under the Post-It's.

I stamped the trees in Early Espresso, but forgot to put my mat under my card stock so they didn't stamp very well. I inked the stamp again and re-stamped them with the mat under it and ended up with some very thick, dark trees. I used my sponge daubers to add the color to the masked off area. Then I removed the Post-Its, stamped the big tree and the greeting, and realized there were dots of ink that had gone through the Post-Its! I started a couple of other cards and had similar issues with getting brown ink where it wasn't supposed to go, so I walked away and decided to make some cookies instead! I came back later and remembered Sara had shared a way to splatter ink in a recent video on Facebook. She "flicked" the marker against the cap and made little dots spray out onto the card stock. Perfect! That covered up the spots and actually looks pretty cool! So I added it to the card base with a layer of Early Espresso behind it.

I'm not sure if I like the colors I added for the background though. Come back tomorrow to see my next attempt!

Colors: Blushing Bride, Early Espresso, Peekaboo Peach, So Saffron, Soft Sky, Whisper White

  1. This is really pretty. I really appreciate when people show when things don't come out 100% the way that you meant and how you worked with it. Great inspiration! Julie
