World Card Making Day!

Saturday is World Card Making Day! I was going to have an event, but found out that a training opportunity for Lloyd was being held the same day. We’re going on a “Flight to Nowhere”- basically a chance for the service dogs in training to go through security at the airport and get on a real plane, but not go anywhere.

Hope you take the time to stamp some cards this weekend!

Frightful Wreath Simply Created Kit- The Spider

I ordered a Frightful Wreath Simply Created Kit so I could make it before I have a class for them. Wow! I'm impressed! It's bigger than I thought it would be, but I shouldn't have been so surprised- it says it's 17" in the catalog.

I haven't been feeling well since last week (I think I have the crud that's going around- headache, sore throat, just feeling lethargic) so I decided I probably shouldn't be using a glue gun yet. I could see bad things happening as I'm not very good with one when I'm healthy! But I figured making the spider should be safe- it's just wire and beads.

Isn't she cute? I still need to finish off the pin that's used for the body- again, sharp tools when not feeling well is probably not a good idea!

There's lots of beads left over, so no worries about losing some. Unless you have dogs like mine that would find them and choke on them. So I had to find all of the ones I dropped. Good thing we have light colored carpet so the purple beads were fairly easy to spot.

That's enough for today- now I need a nap! I'll share the rest of the wreath as I get it done. Hopefully it's finished before Halloween! If you'd like to make one (or more!) of these with me, let me know. I'll supply the stamp set and ink to make the banner and adhesive to put it all together. Check out pages 36-37 in the Holiday Catalog for details!

Stamp-A-Stack Fun Fall Framelits Ghost

I don't usually send cards for Halloween, but I do make one card for a Stamp-A-Stack because there are always cute ideas for them that I want to share. Here is this year's, CASE'd from Janet H:

Stamps: Good Greetings (hostess exclusive set)

Colors: Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White

Accessories: Vellum, retired Designer Series Paper, Fun Fall Framelits, Dimensionals

The ghost that I cut out is attached to the card base. The Vellum is attached to the back of the piece I cut the ghost out of, which is attached to the card base with Dimensionals to give him depth.

Stamp-A-Stack Multi-Colored Seasonally Scattered Thanks

Since today is the first day of Fall, I'll start with the Fall themed card from last Saturday's Stamp-A-Stack:

Stamp: Seasonally Scattered

Colors: Hello Honey, Mossy Meadow, Tangelo Twist, Very Vanilla

Accessories: 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon, Stampin' Write Markers

I used the markers to color directly on the stamp. On the first card, I did little bits of color here and there, on the second card I started with the lightest color at the center and worked my way out to the darkest. It's fun experimenting to get different looks!

For All Things Good Greetings Thankful For You Swap

Last night was Stamp Share with our awesome upline Betty! This is the card I made for our swap:

Stamps: For All Things, Good Greetings (hostess exclusive set)

Colors: Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Mossy Meadow, Very Vanilla

Accessories: Color Me Autumn Designer Series Paper, Gold Basic Metal Buttons, Burlap Ribbon, Dimensionals

I cut the thread off the edges of the Burlap Ribbon to I could unravel it a bit. It was too wide for the card, so I ended up cutting them in half. Then I used the pieces I pulled off to thread the buttons.

My Digital Studio Always Has The Right Sayings!

One of our neighbors gave me a bunch of ripe bananas she had in her freezer, so I told her I would make banana bread and bring some to her. Of course I had to make her a card to go with it! I remembered I have a banana stamp (non SU!) but wasn't sure what to use with it. The saying "thanks a bunch" popped into my head, but I don't have a stamp that says that. My Digital Studio to the rescue! I opened the program, started a new card, added a text box, typed in my saying, changed the size, color and font to what I wanted, and saved it to my computer. I then opened it from my pictures and printed it the size I wanted on Whisper White card stock, trimmed it to size and attached it to my card base. A little color for the bananas and it was done!

Stamp: non SU!

Colors: Daffodil Delight, Early Espresso, Whisper White

Accessories: My Digital Studio, Blendabilities

How cute is that!

Another Thank You Embossed Checkerboard Background

Today's card has a similar background to yesterdays- again I used the 1" Square punch to make a checkerboard pattern. I wasn't sure what to do with it once it was together. Then I thought of embossing a greeting so the background isn't covered up!

Stamp: Another Thank You

Colors: Basic Gray, Lost Lagoon, Pool Party

Accessories: 1" Square Punch, Pool Party Embossing Powder

Different, but kind of cool!

Using up more scraps...this time I used the 1" Square punch to make a checkered background.

Stamps: Wetlands, Teeny Tiny Wishes

Accessories: Labels Collection Framelits, Modern Label and Word Window punches

This is a very neutral card, but would be good for a guy.

Seasonally Scattered Stripes

It's been a cold, blustery, gloomy day today, so while the dogs were napping, I decided to do some stamping! I started with opening my scrap box to see what I could make. This first card uses up some long strips of card stock that were left after cutting pieces for a Stamp-A-Stack.

Stamp: Seasonally Scattered

Colors: Basic Gray, Lost Lagoon, Whisper White

Accessories: Dimensionals

Pretty basic, but I like how it turned out. I'll be back to share more tomorrow!

A Quick Festival Of Trees Card To Use Up Scraps

I didn't get to stamp as much as I wanted to this weekend- the dogs are keeping me pretty busy! But I did get a few things done, including this card which uses up the last of the non-SU! red foil sheet I had. I definitely like the SU! gold and silver foil sheets better! They're thicker so they're easier to work with. This red is really thin and anything you do to it shows. Just adding adhesive on the back makes it curl up. Oh well, it's all used up now!

Stamps: Festival of Trees

Colors: Garden Green, Real Red, Hello Honey, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White

Accessories: Star Punch from Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, Tree, Modern Label and Word Window punches, Lucky Stars and Square Lattice Embossing Folders, Fast Fuse Adhesive, non-SU! red foil sheet

Paper Pumpkin August 2014 Seriously Amazing

I worked on the August Paper Pumpkin kit "Seriously Amazing" while the dogs took a nap yesterday. Sydne still won't play with Lloyd, but at least she's tolerating him! This is a really fun kit that makes 4 regular sized cards and 4 mini cards, all with coordinating envelopes. The colors used weren't listed anywhere, so I used Hello Honey (the color of the ink spot), Mossy Meadow and Strawberry Slush.

One of the cards the way it's shown on the instructions...

...and with the coordinating envelope

I decided to try a different background stamp- this is the dots from the original Welcome Kit. I also cut a card base in half and used it as a layer, then put it on a Mossy Meadow base. The greeting is from Just Sayin'.

I tried another stamp for the background but didn't like the way it turned out, so I brayered Mossy Meadow ink over the whole cut-out layer. I really like how this turned out! See- they're not mistakes, they're creative opportunities!

Another one where I didn't like the background so I brayered over the whole piece. You can still see some of the hearts (from Chalk Lines) peeking through. The greeting is from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

This time I used Hardwood for the background stamping. I wanted something besides just the dots. Greeting from Just Sayin'.

The stripes were supposed to be a mini card, but I decided to make a full size card and use it as a layer instead. Greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes.

Mini card as a layer again.

Another mini card as a layer.

These were supposed to be the cut out pieces for the mini cards, but I really didn't want to make that size. I used them on a regular size card instead. The stripes were supposed to be the base of a mini card.

Same as above, except the stars were supposed to be an envelope for a mini card.

I still have some pieces left, but I'll incorporate them into other cards later. That was all I had time for yesterday!

Lloyd

We have a new temporary dog at our house, "Lloyd". He's from the litter I whelped for Can Do Canines almost two years ago. He'll be with us for a few weeks to a few months, depending on his training and how soon he gets matched with a client.

Chase and I picked him up yesterday and at this point Sydne is not impressed. She's basically been ignoring him. I think she'd like to send him back! Needless to say, he'll be keeping me busy, so I may not get much stamping done for awhile.

If you are curious about Can Do Canines and the awesome work they do, check out their website: www.can-do-canines.org. We have been puppy raisers for them for 12 years!

Paper Pumpkin July 2014 Wish Big Cards

Yesterday I shared the boxes I made with the July Paper Pumpkin kit "Wish Big". Today I'll share the cards I made.

The card like the directions

I saw someone on Pinterest had used the letters for "Hi" and liked it. This one uses part of one of the boxes for a layer.

Another one with part of a box for a layer.

I punched a 2 1/2" circle from the top flap of the box I cut up and used it as a layer. I used the Banner punch to make the ends of my banners. Also the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack to add a star punched from the sheet of star and heart stickers.

I had the sticker sheet turned around on my desk and realized the W could be used as an M and came up with this card.

The negative of the sticker sheet for letters.

Same idea as above, but with a Blackberry Bliss card base.

Another similar version with a Blackberry Bliss card base.

The original card with a Blackberry Bliss card base. Wish I wouldn't have touched the embossing powder and messed up the "Make A"!

Paper Pumpkin July 2014 Wish Big Boxes

The July Paper Pumpkin kit "Wish Big" came on a Saturday that I was stamping with my sister Darla, so I opened it right away and made one card and one box. I thought I shared the picture here, but I think it was on Facebook. I finally finished the rest of the cards and boxes and am ready to share them with you!

The card and box I made right away- just like the directions

Close up of the box

A larger version of the box- I cut one in half and added a 3 1/2 x 12" strip of card stock to the middle to make it taller.

The back side of the taller box. I have W-I-S-H on the sides.

Another taller box, but this time I used a 3 x 12" strip of card stock to the middle, then put a 3 1/2 x 12" strip over it to cover up the tape I used to hold it all together. I didn't like how you could see the seam under the white ribbon on the first taller box.

Here are all of my boxes together so you can see how much bigger the extended ones are. The kit makes six boxes but I made five and used the last one on some cards, which I'll share tomorrow!
